9.) This is basic and standard configuration
1).Q.How do I configure my programs to use Http-Tunnel
A).From your application's menu, find the Settings (or Preferences) dialog, look under \"Network\" or\"Proxy\" \"LAN\" or a similar setting, and configure as follows:
Proxy Type: HTTP or SOCKS (4 or 5) 5 is best in most cases
Proxy Address localhost or 127.0.0.1, 127.0.0.1 is best in most cases
Proxy Port 1080 ( When the tunnel client is open in the configure mode, at the bottom you see that Http-Tunnel's default listening Port is 1080 this can be change to 1081 etc. if another application is currently using that Port. Just make sure that any programs you are using with the tunnel client use the same port.)
Authentication not required
Proxy Username leave blank
Proxy Password leave blank
2).Q.What can I do if an application is not natively configurable?
A.)You need a 'Socksifying Agent'. There are 2 excellent freeware programs. One is SocksCap and the other is Freecap. These add SOCKS support to almost any application. Both come
with exhaustive help files on how to configure applications correctly.
You can find guides to configure the SOCKS programs at this link.
http://www.http-tunnel.com/html/support/user_guides.asp
10.) As always you must do a thorough computer cleaning. Run your anti-virus, and spyware detectors. Defrag. Get a registery cleaner.
11.) If you are getting remote server rejections it may be that either the socks or the http element of the server is having problems. If your program is natively configurable to these settings then switching to the other may be an interim fix until admin can be alerted and correct the problem. If you are using an application like SOCKSCap to launch your program it is always configured as socks then this option would not be available to you.
12.) This is for users who are able to use their client with http tunnel for sometime, getting some data transfer but it stops after sometime giving errors like :
\"remote server rejected connection\" and
\"Incoming Connection received at SOCKS/HTTPS/HTTP frontend\" but nothing happens
Also users who get the above errors without any previous data transfer can refer to this
a)Try to disable your antivirus or shut it down and then run http tunnel client.Sometimes the antivirus keeps scanning whatever is downloaded and it can complicate things. If you get better results, then try to disable this scanning without disabling your antivirus.
b)Give permissions in your firewall to http tunnel client and port 1080 or whatever port is being used by the http tunnel client.Sometimes the firewall keeps scanning on the port 1080 and this may slow down the connections.
c)Even though you may have given permissions as said above, the firewall still may try to scan.Try to disable your Firewall or shut it down and then run http tunnel client. If you get better results then this is the issue why you are not getting good speeds.
d)Many times the windows firewall might prevent you.Follow the steps 2 and 3 for windows firewall also and see.
Known firewalls and antivirus that cause this issue are Norton and ZoneAlarm.
If you need help with configuration on your antivirus or firewall, post here.It may take sometime but i will guide you on the configuration
Thanks to coco70 for his valuable input
13.) This link is to a free tool:
http://download.visualware.com/pub/myspeed/msc.exe It will let you test from your computer your download/upload speeds with/without the tunnel, through SOCKS or HTTP. It is natively configurable to use the tunnel client. You can also do a visual trace route to see where, if any, bottle necks may be occuring or if your through-put is being throttled, etc. Please take a few minutes to famiiarize yourself with its' interface. Such as choosing the server nearest to you.
