Default Linux Thread

Recently I corresponded with a Member that was able to get the tunnel client to run on a linux distro: Using Ubuntu 8.04.2 (Hardy Heron) and WINE version 1.1.16.

The GUI for pasting the key in the tunnel client did not show up properly.
The key was entered in this manner.

WINE implements a registry which can be accessed by regedit.exe (included in a standard installation of WINE). For example, on his box, he simply ran

wine ~/.wine/drive_c/windows/regedit.exe and added the Key.

More on WINE implementation of the registry here:
http://www.winehq.org/docs/wineusr-guide/using-regedit

I have tried to get the tunnel client run on WINE. I however do not have the time to devote to it. As I must use Windows OS to moniter the Systems, Services and Servers of HTTPTunnel.

I thought by posting the Member's success may encourage others to try.

This will at least let some of you linux users know that the tunnel client will run on an OS other than Windows.

Knowing that something may work might give impetus to efforts rather than thinking that attempting something may only be futile.

Linux is a hard transition for a Windows user, but there is no doubt it is far better for servers if you know how to configure it

The client worked fine in the latest version of Wine from the SUSE repositories, however I needed to copy over some DLL files from a Windows XP installation to resolve an error I kept getting on startup. This was easy enough as it told me which DLL files it was missing.

The GUI was perfectly functional and I was able to enter a serial number for the paid service, however the NTLM authentication did not work so I had to use it in conjunction with ntlmaps to allow me to authenticate with my work proxy server.

No. Linux comes in many distros and most are free. Ubuntu is a good place to start for a free and robust linux OS. Ubuntu can install itself in a separate partition. If you decide you do not like it you can just uninstall it and get your partition back.
